The nose is one of the central structures of the face, which means that it is one of the most important features of your facial beauty. Its relationship with the rest of the facial features results in the overall look of your face, so the nose has a great aesthetic importance. Therefore, some people may be conditioned in their interpersonal relationships by feelings of insecurity.

Rhinoplasty is a highly individualized procedure. This means that there is a great variability between people in terms of the shape of the face, the structure of the nose, the type of skin, etc. As a result, each patient has needs and, therefore, a different nose operation type.

Through this surgery of nasal reshaping the outer appearance of the nose can improve in all its subunits (excessive dorsum or hump, excessive width of nasal bones and deformity of tip).In addition this surgery may be associated with correction of the nasal septum deviation which causes respiratory difficulties, surgery known as septoplasty. Therefore, Rhinoplasty should be individualized in each patient because some specific modifications must be exercised in each case, with the objective that both nose and its relationship with the rest of facial structures are aesthetic.

You must never pursue the ideal nose; it would bring you an unnatural appearance, that is to say operated nose. We must preserve the positive aspects of your nose and improve those that disfigure you, thus achieving an aesthetic nose, which “fits” you in your face.

Is the surgery that I want? Is this surgery effective?

The ideal candidates to undergo a rhinoplasty, or nose operation are those women or men who have a relatively bad silhouette and are worried about the facial appearance which gives them some of the characteristics of their nose. It may also be due to loss of elasticity of the skin in older people in whom the nasal tip can suffer a fall, situation frequently associated with facial aging.

This type of surgery can be performed from the age of 16, that is, once past the teenager. The result is permanent and the scars undetectable.

Something that should not be forgotten is that the intervention has the aim of improving their appearance, not perfection.

Surgery and anesthetics

Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery is always done in the operating room, in a clinic or hospital in Madrid. They are procedures that should not be in the query.

The type of anesthesia more employee for Rhinoplasty is the general anesthesia, during which you will be asleep until the surgery is completed.

A complete rhinoplasty usually takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the amount of correction needed.

A nose operation is mainly based on “sculpt” the frame of bone and cartilage under the skin of the nose. This is done through cuts in the inside of the nose and that, therefore, leave no visible scars, known as closed technique. It may be necessary to make an incision in the skin to separate the nostrils (known as columella) to improve the nasal tip, what is known as open technique. Only in this case and when it is necessary to strengthen the wings of your nose may remain scars which, although visible, usually are imperceptible.

Through the above incisions can reshape both bone and cartilage which serve as scaffolding for the nose. Thus, these approaches are achieved through the nasal bones that may reduce nasal dorsum and hump just like narrow nasal bones. Subsequently nasal cartilage is manipulated in order to reduce its volume, altering its shape, to improve its image.

When the operation of nose is finished, usually is placed a cast or splint plastic on the back of the nose and a few plugs inside the nostrils so that your skin adapts to the new frame.

After surgery (post-operative)

At the end of the Rhinoplasty is placed a cast or splint on the nose, which you should approximately wear during 6 – 7 days.

In the postoperative period, painkillers that we recommend; will control the inconvenience that may arise since it will not suffer pain, only will be discomfort.

For the next 24 hours, it is recommended to be at rest to better control the discomfort and avoid bleeding. You will notice the appearance of bruises and swelling around the eyes. This is normal and may increase in the next few days, but you should not be alarmed.

Nose plugs are removed in a variable time (usually within 24 hours) at our clinic in Madrid or previously discharged the day after your rhinoplasty, or nose surgery. These plugs are essential in case a septoplasty has been realized.

In the majority of cases the patient can perform sedentary work after 48 hours. You must not wear glasses, do violent exercise, or blow your nose in about a month.

You must avoid the sun or UVA rays for a minimum period of three months after the plastic surgery.

Approximately between ten to fourteen days the bruises and much of inflammation will be gone and your appearance will be practically normal. You should consider as normal that the small accumulation of inflammation remaining and almost imperceptible will take several months to disappear. When this happen the tip of the nose will be completely soft and the profiles will be defined perfectly.

Risks and Guarantees

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure safe and with a high rate of satisfaction if it is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon. However, there is always the possibility of complications, which, although rare and mild, may appear.

There may be infection or bleeding more than usual, there may be an abnormal reaction to the anesthesia (1 in 6,000 to 12,000 cases) or small veins may appear on the skin of the nose that are usually transitory. Much of these risks can be avoided by carefully following the advice that your surgeon gives you before and after the operation.

As a general rule your incisions will be inside the nose and not be visible at any time.

Results

Do not expect an immediate result after your Rhinoplasty. The reduction of inflammation is progressive so that the end result is obtained at 6 months – 1 year. Therefore although the result is perceptible when we will remove the nasal splint, your appearance will improve as months pass and will make you happier.
